ECCE121
Guidance, Caring, and Behaviour Management Course

Course Overview

This course offers comprehensive guidance on fostering positive relationships, providing nurturing care, and effectively managing behavior in various settings such as childcare centers, schools, and homes. This course introduces students to the three essential elements of guiding young children: (1) theories of child development; (2) individually identified strengths and needs of each child uncovered through authentic assessment; and (3) the child’s cultural background as defined by their community, family history, and family structure.  Direct and indirect guidance principles are introduced including supportive physical environments (indirect), positive guidance and discipline strategies (direct), and using observations in guiding children. Opportunities to observe and monitor children in a natural environment will be arranged to reinforce the student’s learning.

Upon completion of this course, learners will possess the knowledge and skills necessary to create nurturing environments, build positive relationships, and implement effective behavior management strategies that support the well-being and development of children and adolescents.
